After six years of President Obama’s failed and destructive policies, including the early troop withdrawal in Iraq and years of plotting secret deals with Cuba and Iran, it is clear that Mr. Obama deserved neither the Nobel Peace Prize nor to be elected president — twice. The real problems of jobs, the economy, our security and the major upheaval in the Middle East and Africa have been given limited attention or ignored. Instead he has focused on climate change and providing taxpayer funds for his supporters.

Now Mr. Obama is threatening to veto a much-needed defense-spending bill unless increased domestic spending is included. Besides the waste and fraud that has taken place on his watch, Mr. Obama has raised the burden on taxpayers with his immigration policies, which require billions of dollars. If Democratic members of Congress put country first, we would have corrective legislation or impeachment. Since that’s not the case, Republican members of Congress must be united to try to make the changes. This is also an opportunity for Republicans to make the case that the current Democratic presidential candidates — Clinton and Sanders — and potential candidates Joe Biden and Elizabeth Warren have given their full support to Mr. Obama and will continue his destructive policies.

It is incumbent on Republican candidates to end their unproductive personal attacks on each other, tell the people exactly what is wrong with Mr. Obama’s policies and state their corrective plans — then seek public support to get those policies enacted.
