Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, Texas Democrat, said Wednesday she hopes Vice President Joseph R. Biden does not get into the 2016 presidential race.
“Let me say this: we have a great team that has already presented themselves to the Democrats [in] the Democratic primary — sometimes I think a person’s time has passed,” Mrs. Jackson Lee said Wednesday on MSNBC.
“And frankly, I would hope that the vice president would not enter this race, and I would hope that the candidates that are now running will run strong and the Democratic primary voters will have an opportunity to make their choice,” she said.
Mrs. Jackson Lee said she can’t make any decision for anyone who wants to run for any office, but that Democrats already have a pool of candidates that present to the public “the best opportunity for Democrats to win already.”
She reiterated that she hopes voters will pick former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Recent polling has shown Mrs. Clinton as the clear front-runner in the race for the Democratic nomination but that Mr. Biden could eat into some of her support if he enters the race.
