Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont leads former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton in the early state of New Hampshire, according to a poll on the 2016 Democratic presidential field taken after Tuesday’s debate.

Mr. Sanders was at 38 percent in the Franklin Pierce-Boston Herald poll out this week, followed by Mrs. Clinton at 30 percent and Vice President Joseph R. Biden at 19 percent.

Without Mr. Biden in the race, Mr. Sanders increased his lead to 10 points, receiving 48 percent support to Mrs. Clinton’s 38 percent.

A Franklin Pierce-Herald poll in August had Mr. Sanders up by 8 points over Mrs. Clinton, 44 percent to 37 percent.

The Vermont senator’s favorability rating of 83 percent is up 7 points since the August poll, and 83 percent of Democrats also had a favorable view of Mr. Biden. Mrs. Clinton’s favorability rating slipped 6 points from August, to 74 percent.

Forty-one percent said Mrs. Clinton won the Democratic debate held last Tuesday in Las Vegas, with 34 percent declaring Mr. Sanders the winner.

Sixty-four percent also said they think Mrs. Clinton will ultimately win the party’s 2016 nomination, compared to 13 percent who predicted Mr. Sanders will.

The poll of 403 likely Democratic primary voters was conducted Oct. 14-17 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percentage points.
