OPINION:
I found the recent op-ed by Eliana Rudee interesting indeed (“American Jews in Israel witness Obama’s prejudicial ’slap in the face,’” Web, Oct. 11). Ms. Rudee complains that the words and deeds of the Obama administration seem to indicate animosity toward Israel. She says she is witnessing first-hand the consequences of President Obama’s prejudices.
In 2008, as one who tries to keep aware of political events, I felt certain that then Sen. Barack Hussein Obama II was no ally of the Jewish state. However, the majority of American Jewish voters did not agree. In 2008, 78 percent of the Jewish vote went for Mr. Obama, while Sen. McCain received only 22 percent. What is really astounding is that after four years of clear indications that Mr. Obama is no friend of Israel, in the 2012 election 69 percent of the Jewish vote went to Mr. Obama, while Mitt Romney got 30 percent. The American Jewish vote has always been overwhelmingly Democratic and apparently will continue to be.
My advice to Ms. Rudee is to either stop supporting those who support the enemies of Israel or stop complaining about the “slap in the face.”
