OPINION:
There have been terrorist attacks in Egypt, Mali, France, Lebanon, Somalia and myriad other nations. Where is our president on this crisis? He remains passive, petulant and annoyed when asked why his containment strategy isn’t working.
French President Francois Hollande, by default, becomes the leader here, attempting to build an international coalition to destroy, not contain, the Islamic State. To claim, as President Obama does, that the Islamic State has nothing to do with Islam is to ignore the fact the caliphate and Sharia law are fundamental to the Koran.
Even more surprising is Mr. Obama’s claim that terrorists have “no capability” to launch attacks such as those recently perpetrated in Paris.
The FBI respectfully disagrees, based upon the 900-plus individuals they have under active surveillance.
While we shouldn’t become frightened and immobilized by the prospect of a major attack at the local grocery store or theater, we should remain vigilant at public gatherings. And we need to demand that our president reclaim the mantle of leader of the free world by personally leading an international coalition made up principally of Middle Eastern nations and our European allies to stamp out radical Islamic terrorism. He must do this before the cancer becomes endemic in America.
