OPINION:
Among the more heartbreaking scandals emerging from the Obama presidency is the widespread loss of public trust in the veracity of what the president and top officials in his administration say to “We the people.”
For example, President Obama recently issued a statement that sought to reassure Americans that the vetting process for Syrian refugees was exhaustive and could be relied on to cull out potential Islamic State members who might be among the madding crowds of mostly widows and orphans. However, both Republican and Democratic members of Congress and other administration officials have voiced serious reservations about the effectiveness of this government vetting.
The dilemma for “We the people” is knowing whom to trust. After all, Mr. Obama lied repeatedly to America about Obamacare, among other important issues. Significantly, The New York Times and other media outlets have alleged that the ’books have been cooked’ to make the administration’s efforts against the Islamic State appear more successful.
If the truth about the administration’s efforts to fight the Islamic State is being deliberately embellished, why should government claims about vetting of refugees be believed?
Whom can we trust?
