CLARENDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say two men have wounded themselves in separate accidental shootings on the first day of Michigan’s firearm deer season.
The Calhoun County sheriff’s department says a 21-year-old was hunting Sunday morning in Clarendon Township when he dropped a semi-automatic shotgun while trying to remove his jacket. The department says the man was shot in the upper torso.
He was taken to a hospital for treatment. The wound wasn’t considered life-threatening. The shooting happened near the southern Michigan village of Homer, where the man lives.
In in St. Clair County, the sheriff’s department says a 30-year-old hunter accidentally shot himself in the leg in Casco Township on Sunday. The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens reports he was taken to a hospital.
Firearm deer season in Michigan runs through Nov. 30.
