In the streets of Chicago a murder here and there does not mean a thing; killings and shootings are a way of life in the Windy City. So far this year there have been 390 murders and more than 2,500 shootings. Since no one keeps track of the later deaths that result from the shootings, the number of deaths is actually higher.

No one seems to care how many blacks are killed by other blacks. But the recent murder of a nine-year-old child by a gang seeking revenge against the child’s father, a member of another gang, has touched a nerve in the crime city.

On Nov. 2 Tyshawn Lee had just left his grandmother’s house to go play in the park when he was lured into an alley and shot several times in the face and back. He was left to die where he fell, in a pool of blood.

So far not a word about this has been uttered by the occupant of the White House or his wife, the first lady. South Side Chicago, where the horrific murder occurred, was where the Obamas used to make their home. But now they live in the most sumptuous palace in the world, protected by numerous well-armed guards, and evidently they couldn’t care less what happens in their former hometown.

Not a word has been said, either, by the Rev. Jesse Jackson, a so-called black leader who lives in the city, or by that troublemaker and friend of President Obama, the Rev. Al Sharpton.

Curiously, the Black Lives Matter cohort is silent, too. Apparently this black child’s life did not matter. There are no protesters hollering in the street for Tyshawn.

This killing was an outrageous murder that cries out for justice for the child, but no one seems to care. And no one is saying anything, even if they know who murdered Tyshawn, because in certain black communities there is a code of silence when it comes to law enforcement — and evidently this code extends to the White House.
