BALTIMORE (AP) — Authorities say Baltimore police shot and killed a man after he shot one of the officers in the calf.
Department spokesman T.J. Smith said at a news conference Wednesday night that two officers encountered a man with a gun on a city street about 7:45 p.m.
Smith says the man shot at the officers, hitting one in the leg. He says at least one officer returned fire, and the man was shot and killed. Police describe him as a 32-year-old man. Smith says police recovered the man’s weapon at the scene.
The injured officer is a five-year veteran of the department. Smith says he was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition Wednesday night. Police say the second officer on the scene was not injured.
