OPINION:
I am saddened to watch both our state and federal governments continue to argue about climate change. It doesn’t make sense to make the essentially permanent changes to the Earth’s physics and chemistry that we are making without looking closely at this together, across political divides, with open eyes and open hearts.
We should view the efforts of former Rep. Bob Inglis Sr., South Carolina Republican, who recently won the JFK Profile in Courage Award for his work on climate change, as a model for respectful dialogue and a way forward on this issue. In his acceptance speech Mr. Inglis said: “It’s been a circuitous path and one that I would not have chosen, but it’s been a good path. Given a choice between the law of love and the laws of politics, I know I chose the better.”
