The Italian restaurant Lupo Verde (1401 T St. NW, 202/827-4752) will celebrate Pasquetta, or “Little Easter,” on Saturday.
Italians traditionally celebrate Pasquetta on Easter Monday by going on picnics with friends.
Friends of the restaurant can stop by for wood-fired dishes including slow roasted pork and porchetta Panini, apple and pork sausage and house-made pasta. A plate of all the special dishes will be available for $25 per person, or $12 for children younger than 12, from noon to 6 p.m.
Station 4 (1101 Fourth St. SW, 202/488-0987) will celebrate the month of April with a five-course tasting menu devoted to the Paschal Lamb. Dishes include lamb tartar, lamb tongue tacos, lamb kidneys and Merguez sausages. The five-course meal is priced at $75.
Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab (750 15th St. NW, 202/489-0140) will offer a Passover dinner Friday and Saturday. The three-course prix fixe menu, priced at $45.95, includes authentic and traditional Passover dishes, such as gefilte fish with red beet horseradish, bibb lettuce and chive salad, matzo ball soup, a choice of chicken, braised brisket or striped bass en papillote and macaroons for dessert.
Local restaurants are celebrating the 103rd anniversary of the National Cherry Blossom Festival, through April 12, by featuring cherry-inspired dishes and drinks.
At Thai restaurant Mango Tree (929 H St. NW, 202/408-8100), the chef is offering a duck breast red curry with cherry glaze.
Bibiana Osteria Enoteca (1100 New York Ave. NW, 202/216-9550) will add a festival-inspired twist to its cherry mini cannoli.
At Daikaya (705 Sixth St. NW, 202/589-1600), cherries are included in cherry blossom rice and house-made caramel with salted cherry blossoms.
Masa 14 (1825 14th St. NW, 202/328-1414) will feature two festival-inspired dishes: grilled pork with miso barbecue, Japanese mustard and scallions; and a seafood pancake with shrimp, squid, cabbage, mayonnaise, bonito flakes and nori.
Guests at The Oval Room Restaurant (800 Connecticut Ave. NW, 202/463-8700) can order a sashimi of stone bass with rose water gelee, sweet and sour rice with dried cherries topped with candied cherry blossoms from Japan or cherry-infused ice cream with a chocolate cake garnished with kirsch cherries.
Mio Restaurant (1110 Vermont Ave. NW, 202/955-0075) will prepare a number of special dishes incorporating cherries, including snapper, a burrata salad, scallops and black cherry cobbler.
City Tap House (901 Ninth St. NW, 202/644-9433) will include cherry jam in its foie gras terrine and tart cherry gastrique (sauce) in a dish of duck breast. Dessert will be cherry clafoutis.
April 8 has been declared National Empanada Day, and Cuba Libre Restaurant & Rum Bar (801 Ninth St. NW, 202/408-1600) will celebrate with dollar empanada happy hour from 5-7 p.m. Four kinds of empanadas will be available.
The restaurant will host a cooking class April 15 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Participants will learn how to make the restaurant’s signature Mama Amelia and lobster empanadas. The class fee is $65 per participant.
Cuba Libre also will offer a Cuban-inspired dish of Serrano ham wrapped pork chop with sweet potato “crema,” roasted kale and cherry jus and a sweet empanada of goat cheese, sour cherries and sweet cherry mostarda in honor of the National Cherry Blossom Festival.
In Chinatown, Zengo (781 Seventh St. NW, 202/393-2929) is featuring a lunchtime dim sum platter for $15 and a dessert made with cherry compote. Chef/owner Richard Sandoval will introduce his next Test Kitchen series in April. The small plates and cocktails will combine the cuisines of Indonesia and Argentina. They will be available exclusively for dinner, beginning at 5 p.m.
On April 16, after Tax Day, City Tap House (901 Ninth St. NW, 202/733-5333) will host a “recovery happy hour.” Accountants who bring their business cards will receive wristbands entitling them to complimentary select craft beers and house wines from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Slate Wine Bar + Bistro (2402 Wisconsin Ave. NW, 202/333-4304) will offer some relief to tax sufferers with a complimentary dessert with the purchase of an entree and a “buy one get one free” bottle of wine on Tax Day.
From noon to 5 p.m. April 19, Pearl Dive Oyster Palace (1612 14th St. NW, 202/319-1612) will host an all-you-can-eat Boil on the Bayou. Two types of tickets are available — one for food only ($55) and one for food and drinks ($90). Crawfish boiled with corn, potatoes and traditional Cajun seasoning, plus a whole roasted suckling pig with grilled oysters fired on top, will be available, along with crawfish hush puppies, coleslaw, pulled pork sandwiches, pork riblets and a selection of Southern-inspired desserts. A zydeco band will provide entertainment throughout the afternoon.
