A cruise along the Zambezi River turned into a nightmare when British tourists discovered crocodiles gnawing on human remains.
The gruesome discovery was made during a recent trip along the river, which makes up the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia.
“All there was to see of him was his trousers. We have had no information about anyone missing from villages around us, so we don’t think the man was a local,” a source told The Telegraph on Monday.
Another source told the African Times Live on Saturday that authorities believed the individual may have been a poacher.
“We strongly suspect it was a poacher. … Maybe he was wounded and tried to swim across the river,” the source told the newspaper.
Trevor Lane of the Bhejane Trust told the African Times Live that authorities were involved in a shootout with 13 poachers in the area prior to the discovery. The conservationist said that four men went missing afterward.
