An Indian bride ended the ceremony to her arranged marriage when the groom couldn’t answer a simple addition problem.

Police Officer Rakesh Kumar said Wednesday that a wedding ceremony in the village of Rasoolabad turned sour when it became apparent the groom’s family lied about his education, The Associated Press reported.

The problem that sunk the groom’s chances: How much is 15 plus six?

His reply? 17.

“The groom’s family kept us in the dark about his poor education. Even a first grader can answer this,” said Mohar Singh, the bride’s father, AP reported.

Police were called in to make sure that all the wedding gifts that were exchanged prior to the botched ceremony were returned.
