OPINION:
It is somewhat understandable when water districts decide to increase water rates in order to provide safe, clean and efficient water service to customers. When some water districts in California consider raising water rates due to drought conditions, that might be understandable — except for the reason given.
They are considering raising rates because not enough water is being sold due to customers conserving water. First the customers are required to conserve water due to the drought and then when they do they face increased rates due to conservation. What?
Similarly, these many years of listening to our government tell the people that they need to conserve on gas because there is soon to be a shortage of oil. That leads to the people paying more in gas taxes because they aren’t buying enough fuel to support government programs.
I would venture to say that this is a vicious cycle that doesn’t even register with the majority of people as they continually vote to increase taxes.
