Shrimp stuffed with $12M worth of cocaine seized by federal agents in N.Y.

Authorities in Brooklyn, New York, found more than $12 million worth of cocaine stuffed inside shrimp from Guyana last week.

Unsealed documents from Brooklyn Federal Court revealed that agents used a drug-sniffing dog at the the Red Hook Terminal to find the contraband, The New York Daily News reported Thursday.

U.S. Homeland Security Special Agent Ryan Varrone said the container was cleared through customs on June 15, the newspaper reported.

Heeralall Sukdeo, 59, of Sukdeo Sons Fishing, was arrested in connection with the shipment.

“I’m pretty confident that when all the facts come out, this was just a huge mistake,” said Andre Travieso, Mr. Sukdeo’s lawyer, the newspaper reported.

Mr. Sukdeo was ordered to be held without bail.
