After reading the front-page article “GOP calls on Obama to fire IRS chief” (July 28), I was amused by the response of Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, Maryland Democrat, to the suggestion that IRS Commissioner John Koskinen be sacked for obstructing the investigation into politically motivated targeting of conservative groups.

Mr. Cummings “said the call for the president to oust Mr. Koskinen was a ’manufactured political crisis.’” But while we’re on the subject of crises, perhaps we can look into the bungled Maryland launch of Obamacare, which cost taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars but has apparently only qualified said bunglers to try again. Manufactured crisis? No, just Democrats doing what Democrats do best: wasting other people’s money and targeting people with whom they disagree politically.

The profligacy of the Democratic club, to which Mr. Cummings belongs, has produced nothing but debt, lassitude and danger during the term of its vaunted leader, the supposed “smartest guy ever to become president,” in the words of historian Michael Beschloss. So one must ask what qualifies a representative of a state government so deep in the pockets of taxpayers that it should require a breathing apparatus, to judge the veracity of anyone. I cannot recall reading about anybody being held accountable for that Maryland Obamacare launch fiasco, but perhaps Mr. Cummings can enlighten me. I won’t hold my breath. Any representative of a political party intent on the defamation and denigration of the political opposition has little time for accountability or questions, let alone responsible, enlightened governance.
