A gun-owning pastor shot a man who broke into the Church of New Beginning in Baytown, Texas, and then led him through the sinner’s prayer.
Pastor Benny Holmes was sleeping when he heard someone break into his church on Tuesday. Surveillance video and a 911 call both appear to back up his story.
“I commanded him to stop twice, and he didn’t. So fearing for my life, I did what I had to do,” Mr. Holmes told a local ABC affiliate.
“Do you know Jesus? The Lord Jesus?” the pastor asks the suspect on the 911 call, The Blaze reported. “Say, ’Lord Jesus. Forgive me. I have sinned. I repent. Come inside my heart. Live inside of me. And I won’t do this again. In Jesus’ name.’”
The suspected robber was later identified as Lee Marvin Blue Jr., 27, who was charged with burglary of a building.
The suspect’s criminal history includes charges of trespassing, burglary of a vehicle, and assault, the station reported.
The pastor also made headlines in September when he held a woman at gunpoint who was trying to steal UPS packages from his front porch, the local station reported.
