Former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor will be a visiting fellow this spring at Harvard University’s Institute of Politics, the university announced Thursday.

The Virginia Republican is now vice chairman and managing director at the investment firm Moelis & Company after losing to Rep. Dave Brat in a stunning upset in a GOP primary last June.

Resident fellows at the institute this spring include former Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley, who lost a race for governor last year in the deep-blue state and whose shocking loss to former Sen. Scott Brown in a special election in early 2010 threw a giant wrench into congressional Democrats’ plans to pass their health care law.

Former Sen. Kay Hagan, North Carolina Democrat, and former New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn will also be resident fellows. Ms. Hagan lost her re-election bid last year and Ms. Quinn finished third in the 2013 Democratic primary contest for New York City mayor after starting out as an early front-runner.
