OPINION:
Had Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. been alive on the day honoring him earlier this week, a day of such bitter world turmoil, conceivably he would have given another “I Have a Dream” speech at the United Nations.
“Character” would again likely have been the most important word in his speech, this time applying to all peoples of the world. Dr. King would probably have reminded leaders and followers of all “isms” (both religious and otherwise) that only with the distinctive individual quality of strong character — with its moral goodness, self-control and self-esteem — can the true unalienable rights of life, liberty, justice, peace and protection of all life exist.
