BANGOR, Maine (AP) — Attorneys for a Maine man accused of luring a 15-year-old to her death via a fake Facebook page say someone else kidnapped and killed the girl.

The trial of Kyle Dube of Orono got underway in Bangor on Monday. Investigators say Dube used a fake Facebook profile to set up a meeting with Nichole Cable of Glenburn before killing her.

Defense attorney Wendy Hatch says Dube was home with his family on the night of the killing. Prosecutors say DNA evidence shows otherwise. Hatch says the state rushed to judge Dube and someone else committed the crimes.

Dube pleaded not guilty in 2013. Police have said the 21-year-old told others that he’d intended to abduct Nichole and later come to her rescue.
