A D.C. rabbi accused of recording female congregants in a ritual bath won’t leave his synagogue-owned home in Georgetown.
WJLA-TV reports that the board of Kesher Israel synagogue is trying to evict Barry Freundel from the Georgetown home it owns after terminating his contract in December.
Mr. Freundel was arrested in October on voyeurism charges stemming from allegations that he hid a secret camera in a clock radio in a women’s shower at a ritual cleansing bath at the synagogue in Northwest D.C.
The station reports that Mr. Freundel has lived in the home for 26 years but after his firing synagogue administrators said his privileges had been revoked, and he was asked to leave the house by Jan. 1.
Mr. Freundel’s lawyers say he was initially told he could stay until March.
