The New York City Police Department is ramping up security around tourist hotspots, but denies a report claiming it received a “credible threat” against the city ahead of Christmas.

Commissioner William Bratton held an emergency meeting with authorities Tuesday to urge police officers to remain vigilant during the busy holiday season, sources told PIX11 News.

Separately, a federal law enforcement source told PIX11 of a specific possible threat that could face any one of several major U.S. cities. Few details were released about the nature of the threat, the station reported.

NYPD officials denied an earlier PIX11 report that cited law enforcement sources saying they received a “credible threat.”

The NYPD will be ramping up its presence during the holidays across multiple boroughs, including Times Square, St. Patrick’s Cathedral for Midnight Mass on Thursday, and Barclays Center in Brooklyn, the station reported.
