World leaders are looking for and achieving a global consensus on the quality of our natural surroundings, but they are overlooking much more immediate needs.

The disenfranchised require and will find “justice” anywhere they can — from the streets to television shows such as The Blacklist, Quantico, Blindside and Empire. The protagonists of these shows are not exactly Archie Bunker; for example, it’s disappointing if James Spader’s character Reddington doesn’t kill someone in an episode. That’s what we want to see, but on what moral authority does anyone have the right to take a life?

We should not confuse deranged people about guns. A television show or video game is just an existential step from mass murder. The trite saying about arms, that “people kill people,” is true. Media and education, not guns, are the problem in massing shootings. The devil wants revenge, not justice. “An eye for an eye” is irrational, flawed logic, as pointed out by Jesus Christ.

If we take Donald Trump literally, things could go ironically: A wall put up between the United States and Mexico could keep Americans out. Islam could reclaim its former status as a channel of enlightenment and learning — if radicals withered. Go figure.

As Benjamin Franklin said, “Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” Pray for America. Pray for the world.
