Want to read an inspiring story of Christian courage and valor in the face of torture, deprivation and war? You will find such a biography in the life and death of Father Emil J. Kapaun, a Roman Catholic priest and Army chaplain during the Korean War.

A native of Kansas, Kapaun died while interred in a North Korean prisoner of war camp, exiled to die alone in the cold and hunger. Throughout the war and then in the prison camp, Kapaun showed grace to his captors and produced hope within the hearts of his fellow U.S. comrades.

I first read about Kapaun in 2013, when President Obama presented a posthumous Medal of Honor to his family in recognition of his heroism, valor and sacrifice.

Recently, a friend passed along to me a video tribute to Kapaun, produced by Real Life Catholic and narrated by Christopher Stefanick. I know there are an endless number of online videos that compete for your attention. I believe this 5-minute video is truly worth your time in the shaping of your moral imagination.
