Vincente Montano identified as Antioch, Tennessee, movie theater suspect

Vincente Montano has been identified as the suspect in the attacks at the Antioch, Tennessee, movie theater.

According to Metro Nashville police, Montano, 29, entered the theater armed with a pellet gun and carrying two backpacks before pepper-spraying several patrons at a matinee showing of the latest “Mad Max” movie.

Metro Nashville Police spokesman Don Aaron said Montano “has had significant psychiatric or psychological issues.”

“He had been committed four times, twice in 2004 and twice in 2007,” and also was arrested in Murfreesboro in 2004 for assault and resisting arrest, Mr. Aaron told reporters in Nashville on Wednesday evening.

Police shot Montano dead as he tried to flee the theater complex.

Authorities had said at first that Montano was armed with a regular gun and one policeman said he was fired upon when responding to the call.
