A town in New Mexico showed the world a bit of American ingenuity and culinary competitiveness on Saturday by nearly doubling the previous Guinness World Record for a long tamale.
Measuring in at over 116 feet in length, the tamale came together through the united effort of various people in the town of Belen, New Mexico.Â
- a team of 30 chefs
- 120 pounds of masa and 50 pounds of chilis, provided by Bueno Foods
- a custom-designed, aluminum steamer, constructed from materials donated by a local manufacturer
The tamale highlighted a three-day celebration of the state’s heritage and took place at the Valencia County fairgrounds. The organizers of the event are submitting the tally of their tamale to Guinness in order to be recognized as the current record holders.
The previous record tamale was built in Cancun in 2011, but was only 66 feet. “Relatively to their Canadian counterparts, U.S. children growing fatter.”
