Steven J. Vincent, a senior trooper with the Louisiana State Police, has died from his wounds, officials announced Monday.
Vincent was shot in the head Sunday while he approached a car that had swerved into a ditch on the side of the road.
“I am very saddened to report that Senior Trooper Steven Vincent has passed away this morning from the gunshot wounds he suffered yesterday in conjunction with a traffic investigation,” Louisiana State Police Superintendent Colonel Mike Edmonson said in a statement today, ABC NEws reported. “As an organization, we are heartbroken over this senseless and tragic death.”
Police have arrested Kevin Daigle in the attack.
Daigle, 54, of Lake Charles, La. had a number of previous arrests, Col. Edmonson said.
The colonel told Fox News Daigle shot Vincent with a sawed-off shotgun.
Col. Edmonson said the attack was captured on the trooper’s dashboard camera.
