Montgomery County police will conduct a search Sunday for two children who went missing more than six months ago while in the custody of their mentally ill mother.
Police caution that there are no new leads in the case, but that the search is part of ongoing efforts to locate 2-year-old Jacob Hoggle and his sister, 3-year-old Sarah Hoggle.
The children were last seen Sept. 7 in the Darnestown and Clarksburg areas with their mother, Catherine Hoggle. Police declined to say where the search would be located ahead of Sunday’s efforts.
Ms. Hoggle faces multiple charges in connection with their disappearance. Police have said they believe the children are dead and are pursuing a homicide case against Ms. Hoggle, who has a history of paranoid schizophrenia.
A mental evaluation of Ms. Hoggle, who is currently being held at a psychiatric facility, concluded she is not competent to stand trial.
Police said that due to the ongoing criminal investigation into the disappearance of the Hoggle children, they will not allow volunteers from the community to participate in the search.
However, police did encourage residents of the areas where the children were last seen to search their own properties for anything that could provide clues in the case.
