A Massachusetts mother and her teenage son suspected of running a heroin ring were arrested Monday after police raided their apartment. Roughly $16,000, 650 bags of heroin and two unlicensed handguns were found at the scene.
Glendaliz Rios, 32, is charged with causing a minor to distribute a drug, conspiracy to violate drug laws with a minor, and related offenses, The Associated Press reported Wednesday. Police said she her 16-year-old son, a Drury High School student, kept the drugs in his bedroom.
“Kudos to those who brought this arrest forward,” said North Adams Mayor Richard Alcombright, the Berkshire Eagle reported Tuesday. The arrests came after a six-month investigation.
Ms. Rios is being held on $35,000 bail after entering a not guilty plea, the newspaper reported. She is due in court for a pretrial hearing May 12.
Ms. Rios’ son was charged with possession of heroin with intent to distribute, conspiracy to violate drug law, two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, and two counts of improperly storing a firearm near a minor, the Berkshire Eagle reported. His name was not released because he is a minor.
The family’s attorney could not be reached for comment, AP reported.
