The leader of an organized movement to draft Vice President Joseph R. Biden into the 2016 presidential race said Friday that Americans want someone who is “human” and declined to say whether he would support former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton if Mr. Biden doesn’t run.

“They want someone who is human, who’s not just reading talking points, who’s not just reading from a teleprompter,” Will Pierce, the group’s founding director, said on MSNBC. “They want someone who [they] can relate to but at the same time who has the leadership, the experience, and basically just … charisma that the vice president has.”

Asked if he would support Mrs. Clinton if Mr. Biden does not run, Mr. Pierce said right now they’re just focused on Mr. Biden.

“Secretary Clinton — she’s done a lot of great good for the Democratic party and for the nation, but the main thing is this: eight years ago around this time, everyone was saying Hillary Clinton was a shoo-in,” he said. “And look what happened — a senator from Illinois … became president.”

“This election is wide-open — we have almost over a year to go,” he said, touting more than 30,000 signatures and saying they’ve sold out of bumper stickers.

“At the end of the day, people throughout the whole entire country — they’re looking towards the vice president as someone that they can count on,” he said.
