Misao Okawa, the world’s oldest person, died on Wednesday at age 117. She was born on March 5, 1898, in Osaka, Japan.

“She went so peacefully, as if she had just fallen asleep. We miss her a lot,” said Tomohiro Okada, an official at her nursing home, The Associated Press reported. She was with her grandson as she passed away.

Guinness World Records recognized Ms. Okawa as the oldest person in 2013. The organization will now work to authenticate her replacement on the list.

Ms. Okawa married her husband, Yukio, in 1919. He died in 1931 after the couple had three children together, two daughters and a son, AP reported.
