An officer with Estonia’s Internal Security Service was abducted at gunpoint and taken into Russia after a violent struggle, President Toomas Hendrik Ilves said Friday.
“Breaking. Estonian counterintelligence/anti-organised crime officer kidnapped to Russia from Estonia,” Mr. Ilves tweeted Friday morning.
Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Paet called the incident “very galling.”
“We expect full assistance and cooperation from Russia in resolving the incident and bringing the Estonian citizen back to Estonia,” Mr. Paet said in a statement, Business Insider reported.
Estonian Public Broadcasting reported that smoke grenades were employed during the abduction and that communications in the area were jammed, according to Business Insider.
