BELFAIR, Wash. — The Mason County sheriff’s office says Habitat for Humanity workers in Belfair, Washington, found a World War II-era grenade in a large trash bin next to their building.
The Washington State Patrol bomb squad responded Tuesday and confirmed it was a real “pineapple-style fragmentation grenade.” The sheriff’s office says the bomb squad planned to take it away and discharge it Wednesday in a safe area.
There’s no indication where it came from or how it ended up in the trash.
