Baton Rouge port to get LNG facility

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The Port of Baton Rouge will get its first natural gas liquefaction and fueling facility in 2015.

Houston-based Waller Marine, Inc. and Omaha-based Tenaska NG Fuels, LLC announced Tuesday Tenaska Bayou LNG will be built on approximately 80 acres at the Baton Rouge port.

The facility will aim to provide LNG and compressed natural gas as a lower-cost and clean-burning alternative for high-horsepower marine, transportation and natural gas and oil exploration and production industries throughout the region.

Officials say the facility will initially be capable of producing 200,000 gallons of LNG daily, with intentions to expand.

Construction is expected to begin in 2015, and could last for 18-24 months officials said.

Officials have planned for commercial operation to begin during the first quarter of 2017.
