Though President Obama has stated otherwise, 72 percent of Americans believe U.S. combat troops will ultimately be used in the fight against the Islamic State terrorist group, and a plurality supports using them if military advisers recommend such a course.
Forty-five percent are in favor of using the ground troops if the military believes that’s the best way to destroy the group, also known as ISIS or ISIL, while 37 percent are opposed, according to the NBC/Wall Street Journal/Annenberg poll.
