President Obama signed legislation Friday afternoon to keep the federal government operating through Dec. 11, including a $500 million provision to arm and train Syrian rebels to fight the Islamic State terrorist group.

The measure also includes extra funding for the fight against the Ebola epidemic in West Africa. Congress will need to take up another resolution after the November elections to provide for government funding into the new year.

The president signed the legislation shortly before departing for Camp David in Maryland for the weekend.

The funding resolution was necessary because there are only two weeks remaining before the start of fiscal 2015, and Congress hasn’t approved any of the regular appropriations bills.
