OPINION:
Our government is so upset with the Islamic State terrorist killing of two American journalists in Iraq that some want to take military action against these evil killers. But terrorists and others are entering our nation illegally every day because our own borders are not sufficiently secure. The obvious question is: Why don’t we thoroughly secure our borders?
Article IV, Section 4 of our Constitution states in part that “[t]he United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a republican form of government, and shall protect each of them against invasion.” Our invaders may not take the form of a uniformed army, but we are being invaded nonetheless. Money is being involuntarily taken (stolen) from our citizens via taxes to help pay for the health, education and welfare programs of people in our nation illegally. Is this morally right?
U.S. citizens need to remind our lawmakers in Washington to abide by their oath of office to defend our Constitution by fulfilling this part of the document.
