A 20-year-old Houston man leapt into action to protect his father and sister after a masked man carrying a shotgun walked into their family owned convenience store Friday night.

The alleged robber entered the store around 10:30 p.m. at 9142 Scranton Street and pointed a shotgun at the owner’s daughter behind the register and demanded money, NBC-affiliated KPRC reported.

The owner then pulled out his handgun, causing the suspect to point the shotgun in his direction. That’s when the owner’s son, Usman Seth, ran over, grabbed the gun from the dad and shot the intruder multiple times, police said.

“He was saying, ’I’m going to kill you if you move,’” he told the CBS-affiliated KHOU. “I didn’t have any other option for protecting my family, so I starting shooting at him.”

The man died at the scene. His name has not been released.

Investigators questioned Mr. Seth and said the case will be handed over to a grand jury.

The son said this is the fourth time the family has been robbed in the past three years.

“I’m ready for them, if they try that stupid thing again,” he said.

Police say the robber had staked out the store earlier with two other people, who police are now questioning.
