NEW HAVEN, Ind. (AP) — More than two dozen freight cars derailed near Fort Wayne from a train traveling from Ohio to Illinois.

The freight train’s derailment happened about 6 a.m. Monday near the city of New Haven a few miles east of Fort Wayne.

Norfolk Southern spokesman Dave Pidgeon tells The Journal Gazette no one was hurt and no hazardous materials were released. He says 26 derailed cars ended up on their side and five remained upright.

The 84-car train was traveling from Bellevue, Ohio, to Decatur, Illinois, when it derailed.

WANE-TV reports the derailment blocked at least three roads in the area and limited traffic to one lane on another.

Pidgeon says it wasn’t immediately clear what caused the derailment and how long cleanup would take.
