Virginia’s “Don’t Tread On Me” license plates that advocate for limited government have been soaring in popularity since their release in 2012.
The yellow plates resembling the Gadsden flag were on just 1,500 vehicles after their release. Now, there are more than 38,000 in circulation, bringing the “Don’t Tread On Me” plates to sixth place among Virginia’s best-selling special plates, The Virginian-Pilot reported.
At this rate, the plates could be No. 3 by early 2015. The two most popular tags, the nature-themed “Scenic” and “Heritage,” are reportedly falling in numbers.
The plates emblazoned with “In God We Trust” have also risen in sales, bringing the design to seventh in the DMV’s June ranking, The Virginian-Pilot reported.
