TACOMA, Wash. — Pierce County prosecutors have filed harassment and fourth-degree assault charges against a 55-year-old Tacoma postal carrier accused of sexually harassing and inappropriately touching several women on his delivery route.

The News Tribune reports that Robert Joseph Taitano was arrested Wednesday. His arraignment is scheduled Thursday. Court records did not list a lawyer for him.

Court documents say a Tacoma woman found the man in her apartment as she got ready for work Aug. 5. When she yelled at him to leave, he said that her door had been unlocked. When he noticed a large knife nearby in the kitchen, he left.

Prosecutors say the woman told police she had found a “missed delivery” slip under her door several weeks previously and gave it to the carrier, who asked her personal questions including whether anyone lived with her. The woman says the carrier wasn’t able to find a package in her name.

According to court papers, the detective found several similar allegations against the carrier. The U.S. Postal Service reportedly was notified in at least two cases. A Postal Service representative didn’t immediately respond to an email request for comment Wednesday evening.
