President Obama nominated a successful bundler Thursday to the coveted diplomatic post of U.S. ambassador to Sweden.
The president selected Iranian-American Azita Raji, an investment banker and philanthropist who raised more than $3 million for his re-election campaign in 2012.
Ms. Raji, who also donated money to Mr. Obama’s 2008 presidential bid, earlier received an appointment to the president’s Commission on White House Fellowship. She previously worked as a vice president of JPMorgan, where she focused on fixed-income investments.
The American Foreign Service Association said 35 percent of Mr. Obama’s ambassadorships have gone to political appointees. His predecessor, President George W. Bush, devoted 29.8 percent of his ambassadorships to political appointees.
Correction: An earlier version of this story referred to Ms. Raji as an Indian-American.
