Mr. Carson, a medical doctor who has become a conservative thought leader, is in second place in the latest Iowa horserace poll conducted by Bloomberg Politics/The Des Moines Register.
Mr. Carson pulls in 11 percent support in the poll, behind only Mitt Romney’s 17 percent.
Mr. Carson leads Rand Paul, Mike Huckabee, Paul Ryan, Chris Christie and Jeb Bush.
