Thank you for publishing “Wisconsin county shuts down sand mining operation” (Web, Oct. 8). The article was well-done and very informative.

As a Wisconsin resident, I understand that sand mining is an important issue, and it is important to remember that this scenario is the exception, not the rule. More than 100 frack-sand facilities operate in Wisconsin, and the vast majority of these mines operate in a safe and environmentally friendly manner. Wisconsin’s regulatory framework makes it possible to benefit economically from frack-sand mining while protecting the ecology of the state.
