A newborn baby is in critical but stable condition in New Castle, Delaware, after her mother died from injuries sustained during a brutal domestic attack.
Paola Delgado-Polanco, 21, died Wednesday after a man reported to be her boyfriend allegedly brutally beat her with a baseball bat 10 days earlier, The Blaze reported.
At only six months pregnant, Ms. Delgado-Polanco gave birth to a baby girl before she succumbed to her injuries. The baby is listed in critical but stable condition.
Police say 24-year-old Fernando Flores, of Bearl was arrested and charged with assault on Oct. 19. Now the charges have been upgraded to manslaughter, The Associated Press reported.
The victim’s family has opened a GoFundMe crowdfunding account in an attempt to raise $20,000 to bring Delgado-Polanco back to her native Mexico for burial and to help offset the baby’s health care expenses, The Blaze reported.
“Paola Eden Delagado Polanco was a young thriving girl and full of life, with charming simplicity and humility,” reads a description on the funding page. “She died October 29 at her 21 years as a victim of domestic violence caused by her boyfriend in Bear, Delaware. Paola was six months pregnant, and by a miracle the baby survived.”
