ALPINE, Ariz. (AP) - An eastern Arizona forest has a new acting district ranger.

Ernest Taylor will oversee the Alpine Ranger District in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests.

The Boulder Creek, California, native succeeds Richard Davalos, who retired earlier this month.

Taylor has degrees in zoology and biology. He managed a tribal wildlife program in Washington state after graduation and later worked in harvest management.

He began working for the federal government in 1999, first with the National Park Service and then the U.S. Forest Service.

He most recently worked in the Forest Service’s regional office in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in the wildlife section.
