The Redskins placed cornerback Tracy Porter on injured reserve Wednesday with an AC joint separation in his right shoulder, ending his 2014 season.

Porter signed a two-year, $6 million contract in the offseason and was expected to serve as Washington’s nickel corner this year. Instead, he struggled with a hamstring injury and saw little playing time, participating in only three of the team’s first 11 games.

The 28-year-old veteran sustained the shoulder injury Sunday in San Francisco, leaving the game in the third quarter and giving the Redskins only two active cornerbacks for the remainder of the game.

The Redskins promoted Chase Minnifield, 25, from the practice squad to fill Porter’s spot on the 53-man roster.

While Porter’s season is now over, the Redskins did also receive positive injury news as several starters returned to practice. After not practicing at all last week, left tackle Trent Williams (sprained right MCL), tight end Jordan Reed (strained right hamstring) and defensive lineman Chris Baker (strained right sternoclavicular joint) were limited participants in Wednesday’s practice.

Safety Ryan Clark (stinger/shoulder) and running back Silas Redd (bruised rib) were also limited in practice.

Cornerback E.J. Biggers did not practice because of concussion-like symptoms stemming from a first-quarter collision in Sunday’s game, and defensive end Jason Hatcher was held out because of an unspecified right knee injury.

Bashaud Breeland (back) was a full participant in practice.

The Redskins also announced they have added two players to their practice squad: cornerback Trey Wolfe, who played college football at Division II Fort Valley State and spent part of this season on Seattle’s practice squad, and defensive back Kenny Okoro, who played in the Arena Football League.
