The race to represent Arizona’s 2nd district in the U.S. House of Representatives is now headed toward the state’s first-ever general election recount for a congressional seat, the Arizona Republic reported.

Updated vote totals from Pima County put Republican Martha McSally up 161 votes over Democratic Rep. Ron Barber out of more than 219,000; an automatic recount, to start Dec. 1 at the earliest, is triggered if the margin is fewer than 200 votes.

Ms. McSally’s campaign declared victory, while the Barber camp said the race was still too close to call and has hinted that it might seek to have 782 provisional ballots counted that had been ruled invalid, the paper reported.
