A British terror suspect known as the “White Widow” was killed by a pro-Russian rebel in Ukraine, a Russian news service claimed Wednesday.
Samantha Lewthwaite, 30, was gunned down two weeks ago by a volunteer Russian sniper, the Regnum news agency in Moscow said.
The extraordinary claim comes one month after Lewthwaite was reported to be fighting for the Islamic State militant group in Syria.
“One of the world’s most wanted terrorists Samantha Lewthwaite who fought as part of a Ukrainian battalion has been killed by a volunteer sniper,” the unconfirmed report said, the Daily Mail reported.
“According to our information, the White Widow fought on the side of Ukrainian volunteer battalion Aidar as a sniper,” it said.
She was reportedly killed by “a volunteer sniper who came to fight at the Lugansk front from Russia.”
Lewthwaite was married to Germaine Lindsay, who killed 26 passengers on a London subway in a suicide bombing attack in July 2005, the New York Post reported.
She has also been linked to Islamic terror group al-Shabaab, that carried out a shopping mall massacre in September 2013 in Nairobi, Kenya.
