DESTIN, Fla. (AP) - Restoration has begun on a historic boat that was part of Destin’s original fishing fleet.

The Primrose originally was built in 1925. It’s on display at the Destin History and Fishing Museum.

Director Jean Melvin tells the Northwest Florida Daily News (https://bit.ly/1wKyAPy ) that the Primrose has fallen into disrepair due to exposure to the elements.

The museum also has been fundraising for other restoration and landscaping projects. Melvin says a new Primrose exhibit with a historical garden will be opened in the spring for the fishing village’s Founder’s Day celebrations.

The Florida Panhandle community on the Gulf of Mexico is known for its fishing and an annual fishing rodeo that draws tourists throughout the month of October.
